With support from our partner and strategic funder #Global Fund for Children- USA we were supported to implement an Initiative called PEAK Initiative which was aimed at supporting children get back and stay in schools after COVID 19 which led to the closure of schools for over 2 years. Using play and other methods, we supported children in our partner community schools by introducing play in learning to children as a way of attracting their attention and retantion. TATCO Uganda with our Child Growth and Education program, we supported over 5 primary schools with Teaching/Learning through Play skills, tools and equipments. This in addition with periodic Teacher Refresher Training, career guidance, motivation programs to children and Play competitions among learners. As a result, this project led to an increment in the enrollment of children in our partner schools, increment in academic grades and improved teachers’ capacity to children support. Thank you Global Fund for Children for supporting us implement this project in schools.
With support from our partner and strategic funder @Classrooms for Africa- Canada, we were able to build over 4 blocks containing 10 classrooms and an administration block and a toilet. This in addition we also provided the needed furniture in the classrooms and in offices. This whole project took place between 2020 – 2022 hence the new face of the school with a conducive environment that attracts children mainly those who were in a Bukerere stone quarry to stay and learn. This was a signature project that we carried out in Mukono district and with an organised school administration team and dedicated ever refreshed teachers. A number of children per year are impacted and good academic performance among the children is always achieved. Thank you Classrooms for Africa for trusting us and making us able to support this community school.
Children aged 3-6 years in Bukerere most those from Teenange mothers who mostly became mothers as a COVID 19 aftermaths and families with limited resources are the beneficiries in the setup ECD. Early child development and care is an important program to children which prepares them for Primary Education but in Uganda currently this sector is mainly run by private individuals as business and not yet taken up by Government which gives children from poor families less chances of joining a Nursery or ECD center for support. TATCO Uganda in 2022 opened up an ECD center called Apple Junior School to support children attain the required support as they grow and get ready for Primary education. This center is up and running supporting a number of children in Bukerere and surrounding areas. The center offers both physical and mental support programs which include Education activities, Play Based Learning, Creative Expressions, Health and wellness and Mothers child care training.
In 2015 TATCO Uganda signed an MOU with Creamland Nursery and Primary School – Kireka Directors which school was started in 2006 to provide education support services to vulnerable children who flew to the south from Acholi Region -Northern Uganda because of the Civil Wars of the LRA that claimed alot of people’s lives hence making many children refugees in their country. With financial support from Classrooms for Africa in 2026 – 2018, TATCO Uganda constructed 10 classrooms, an administration block, Library, Toilets and leveled the play ground with pavers to create a favourable and conducive learning environment for children. TATCO Uganda still continues to support the school with other Education support Like Teacher Refresher Training, Provision of some teaching aid and scholastic materials. The school has an increased enrollment of children from then, improved academic performance and sustainability of education services. Thank you #Classrooms for Africa- Canada for the support.
