What We Do

Child Development and Education

TATCO Uganda's desire to promote children's education in selected areas of Uganda currently focuses on four main factors that support quality, equitable and inclusive learning: the Learning Environment, Parents' roles in Education, Content and Teaching Expertise, and Learners' Interest in Education. TATCO currently works with community schools in areas of Mukono, Wakiso and Buikwe districts.

These are some of the activities and projects carried out under this program:

  • Support the construction of classrooms and other school structures in new and already established schools.
  • Provide school management skills and systems to school administrators to manage, grow and sustain schools.
  • Provide refresher training to teachers using the most updated teaching curriculum and methods.
  • Provide scholastic materials to a number of selected needy learners in schools.
  • Provide teaching aids (equipment and materials) needed in the teaching process.
  • Create Learning-Through-Play modules and games, and train teachers how to teach classroom topics through play.
  • Advocate for children's right to education and support children with mental health needs through school counselors and a community psychologist.
  • Organize sports and games events, including inter-school competitions, with gifts and certificates for top performers.
  • Organize parent-and-child motivation meetings on the duties of parents in children's education.
  • Provide bursaries and scholarships to bright but needy children so they can stay in school.
  • Carry out outside-school tutoring through home visits by our field officers.
  • Carry out assessment and evaluation with teachers, children, parents and administrators to improve the education sector.

Every child goes through a remarkable series of physical, cognitive, social and emotional development. Our Early Childhood Development (ECD) approach is based on the fact that children respond best when caregivers use definite methods designed to promote and stimulate growth to the next level.
