Climate and environmental change is one of the greatest dangers mankind faces, threatening biodiversity, food security and the lives of people. As THE ANDTEX TRAINING AND CARE ORGANISATION (TATCO Uganda), we are highly concerned with creating a positive mindset on environment conservation and climate change in society.
These are some of the activities and projects carried out under this program:
- Organize community awareness workshops on environment conservation and climate change, in schools and with local leaders and focus groups.
- Bring in professional environmentalists to teach parents and community members about environmental degradation and conservation.
- Train teachers to integrate environment and climate topics into classroom learning so children grow up well-informed.
- Plant trees and encourage community members to plant more, starting from our schools and other permitted areas.
- Collaborate with local leaders to educate communities on carbon emissions, waste disposal in water sources, and settlement in wetlands.
- Advise and request local authorities to stop harmful settlement in wetlands and create safer, gazetted waste disposal areas.
- Design, print and distribute publications on environmental conservation and climate change mitigation.
- Create alternative sources of income for vulnerable community members to reduce harmful practices like sand mining, stone quarrying, charcoal burning and brick making.
- Provide vocational skills training and livelihood support projects that are environmentally friendly.
It is possible to reverse the damage, since its cause is simply man's influence on Earth — through vocational skills training and environmentally-friendly livelihood projects, we hope to change that mindset.
