EMPOWERING WOMEN WITH BUSINESS SKILLS

About 87 percent of the poorest households in rural areas of Mukono and Buikwe districts of Uganda do not have access to Entrepreneurial skills and credit which can help them start and run economic enterprises for income generation. Women have the potential to change their own economic status, as well as that of the communities in which they live. Yet more often than not, women’s economic contributions go unrecognized, their work undervalued and their promise unnourished. As the aftermaths of COVID 19, many families were left diver-stated with less or no source of income which affected mainly the women.

THE ANDTEX TRAINING AND CARE ORGANISATION (TATCO Uganda), embarked on the duty of Empowering the women of all ages through periodic and grouped Training in Entrepreneurship, Business Management and Financial Literacy skills and on addition to this some vocational skills that they can use to start small manufacturing entities and to start up and manage their small businesses which will at the end help them earn a living to support their families and communities at large. But the overall aim is to empower these women to get income so that they can be able to support their children with education with just a small support from TATCO Uganda. The theme for this project is “An empowered woman, is an empowered Community“.

This project started and we hope to continue to impact a number of grouped women in Buikwe and Mukono Districts of Uganda. These groups will be later registered at the sub-county level for continued support.

A number of women put into groups of 25 each are currently undergoing training in business and later they will be given incentives to start businesses that they will manage and grow given the skills they have been given.

Special thanks to our project partner and sponsor #Haella Foundation (https://haella.nl/foundation for the finances and other support that helped us kick start the project and its continuity. Also thanks goes to the KATO Andrew the Director for directing and finding resources needed to implement these projects, the Trainers and the women who embraced the project.
